Mass Poor People’s & Low-Wage Workers' Assembly
June 18, 2022
1968 is when Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and thousands of Americans, alarmed at their government’s blindness to human need, launched the Poor People’s Campaign. The Poor People's Campaign continues today as a moral movement to confront the interlocking evils of systemic racism, poverty, ecological devastation, militarism, and the false narrative of religious nationalism. The campaign invites you to participate in the "Mass Poor People's and Low-wage Worker's Assembly and Moral March on Washington and to the Polls" on Saturday, June 18th. We are called to assemble and march in the nation's capital to summon a moral response to the pain of 140 million poor and low-wealth people, low-wage workers, and everyone directly impacted by injustice.
There are buses leaving from Cleveland for a round trip all on that Saturday and funding may be available for people who cannot afford the fare. You can also go to poorpeoplescampaign.org/june18/ for more information and to sign up. You can donate to pay for bus seats for low wealth people directly at bitly.com/DonateOHPPC and you can register to watch it virtually by going through the regular online registration process and selecting "I will participate virtually" so that you can be counted. There are other Episcopal churches throughout the country attending and there are already some St. Paul's members signed up. In the upcoming weeks, there will be more information about how to participate.
