The Living Bread Book Group

Wednesday, March 22, 2023, 7:00 PM

When we receive Holy Communion, we are given its inward and spiritual grace even if we don’t know it or feel it. However, the power of this sacrament — the very life of Christ in us — becomes all the more real to us when we study, reflect, pray, and meditate on it. Our formation book for this season of Lent is The Living Bread by Thomas Merton, in which one of the foremost spiritual thinkers of the past century considers the mystery of the Eucharist in its fullness: as a sign of Christ’s love for us; as a sacrifice; as Christ’s presence with us; as food for our journey to God; as a foretaste of the perfect communion we will know with God in heaven and in the world to come. The book can be bought online from the publisher (Farrar, Straus, and Giroux), Amazon, or your preferred bookseller. Each session will meet in the Brooks Room and be led by one of the clergy. A light Lenten meal will be provided by participants. Virtual participation is an option, and a Zoom link will be provided upon request by contacting John Kennedy.

The Rev. Jeanne Leinbach

Rector

Jeanne is Rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. She joined St. Paul’s in September, 2015. Previously, she served as Associate Rector at Christ Episcopal Church in Winnetka, IL. She was ordained to the Priesthood in December, 2007.

Prior to being ordained, Jeanne was a management consultant for the financial services industry. She holds an MDiv from Seabury Theological Seminary, an MBA from Cornell University and a BA from Mount Holyoke College.

Jeanne tries to live by these words by Frederick Buechner:

“Listen to your life. See it for the fathomless mystery it is. In the boredom and pain of it, no less than in the excitement and gladness: touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it, because in the last analysis all moments are key moments, and life itself is grace.”

The Rev. Brandon Ashcraft

Associate Rector

Brandon grew up in Tupelo, Mississippi, and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of the South, Sewanee. He then moved to New York City where he worked for the next 15 years in media relations for Wall Street firms.

After discerning a call to ordained ministry, Brandon attended the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale and then completed a year-long hospital chaplaincy residency in Minneapolis. He was ordained to the priesthood at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York in September 2019 and prior to joining St. Paul’s, he served as a Curate at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Austin, Texas.

The Rev. Patricia Rose

Assistant Rector
(216) 238-4010 |

Rev. Patricia is our clergyperson for Adult Formation and Outreach. She offers St. Paul’s many gifts, including her passion for formation and outreach inspired by the Gospel, her strong pastoral care skills, her collaborative nature, and her calm demeanor. I look forward to you meeting her.

Patricia had a 30-year career in education and communications, in addition to being a Spiritual Director for 17 years, before entering the ordination process. She graduated from Church Divinity School of the Pacific (CDSP) in May 2021 and has been the Curate at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Columbus, Ohio, for the past two years. Her time at St. Stephen’s gave her broad exposure to parish ministry, including preaching and presiding, pastoral care, formation, social justice, and hospitality. In addition, Patricia was responsible for worship and ministries at a small parish giving her experience in all administrative, finance, and building needs of a parish as well as experience in initiating new ministries.

Pledges are our largest source of annual funding. A pledge is an estimate for what a household plans to give financially over the course of the current year. Pledges are most helpful because they make it possible for Saint Paul’s to make a budget for the year.
