The altar around which we gather is the very heart of our community, where we meet God and sing God’s praises. True worship is not for us; it is for God. Praise of God and the return of thanks to God is the work of the people, which is the very meaning of the Greek word liturgy, “the work of the people.” In thought and in beauty, it must be the best we have to offer.
At St. Paul’s we cherish tradition in form and music, and these indeed are our heritage. We strive for the best of both ancient form, and contemporary innovation, by which the Spirit continues to live and lead. We are a house of praise, which is our duty and our delight.
We offer these worship services each Sunday:
At 7:45 a.m., Holy Eucharist, Rite II: A quiet service of Holy Communion held in St. Martin's Chapel.
At 9 a.m., Holy Eucharist: This service is held in the Nave, and our four children’s and youth choirs provide the musical leadership. The Eucharist is offered according to Rite Two or other forms, such as Enriching Our Worship. In the summer, the service is held outdoors on the front lawn, and music is led by a variety of instrumentalists.
At 11 a.m., Holy Eucharist on 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays; Morning Prayer, Rite I, on 2nd and 4th Sundays: These services are held in the Nave. A brief communion is offered in the chapel on Morning Prayer Sundays. During the program year, music is led by the Senior Choir. In the summer, a volunteer choir sings and the service begins at 10:15 a.m.
At 5 p.m., Holy Eucharist, Rite II: A quiet service of Holy Communion held in St. Martin's Chapel. Choral Evensong is offered at this hour a half dozen Sundays in the year. Other Sundays are without music.
Healing Prayers are offered on the third Sunday of each month in St. Martin's Chapel immediately following the 9, 11 and 5 o'clock services.
We offer these opportunities for prayer and worship during the week:
Monday through Friday at 8:30 a.m., Morning Prayer:
A simple spoken service held in the Chapel of the Cross using The Book of Common Prayer and Enriching Our Worship.
Wednesdays at 6 p.m., Holy Eucharist:
An intimate weekday service held in the Chapel of the Cross, often observing the Lesser Feasts of the day.
